Facts Found: Data Center Listing in Alachua

There is a lot of concern among locals recently about a real estate listing advertising a property for a potential data center. Here’s what is what we know based on what’s available online in one place.

As of May 15, 2026 there are no active applications for a data center in Alachua County.

EDIT May 18, 2026: The joint Alachua City Commission and Alachua Board of County Commissioners scheduled for Monday, May 18th is being rescheduled to a date to be determined soon.

The Alachua City Commission is having their regular meeting on Monday, May 18th at 6pm. There are two opportunities for "public comment not at the agenda", anyone can use one of those turns. Data Center is not on the agenda.

IMPORTANT: Tuesday, May 19th at 6pm is the Alachua 2050 public workshop at City Hall.

The Listing originally included the term “data center”, this has since been removed and replaced with “industrial redevelopment”

Here is a link to the listing from Eric Ligman of Bosshardt Realty Services.

Something noticable is that the listing has changed the title from “High Megawatt Data Center Development Site” to “Industrial Redevelopment Opportunity”.

The content of the page can change but the URL tells the original story.

According to the webpage, this listing was posted on 2/13/2026. This screenshot was taken on 5/13/2026.

This screenshot was taken from a Facebook post on May 3, 2026 with the page title at the time:

High Megawatt Data Center Development Site.

Checking out the source information of the listing page, it seems the last update was on May 11, 2026.

Google search from May 13, 2026 shows there was an update to the page two days prior which aligns with the previous image that an update occurred on May 11, 2026.

This blog is being published exactly three months after the listing went online. In that time this posting has circulated through the community. This property first came up in a formal setting at a City of Alachua Planning & Zoning Board meeting and soon after addressed by the City of Alachua Commission as a topic of interest.

Could concern from the community have caused the listing to be edited to remove the term “data center”?

Found Information

Taken from the Alachua County MapGenius (link).

The property outlined in light blue is between the Hague neighborhood (west) and San Felasco Tech City (east) on HWY 441.

Another screenshot from the Alachua County MapGenius (link) that corresponds to the image above.

This confirms this is in unincorporated Alachua County, therefore any land use changes (should they occur) will be under the jurisdiction of the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners.

The property owner, per Sunbiz, is connected to an address in New York. Their taxes in 2025 was ~$45,000. The 12705 address is connected to other corporations that are inactive/dissolved.

Coincidence? City of Alachua’s bid for Substation Expansion

On social media, there have been posts that include the City of Alachua’s recent open bid for a Legacy Park Substation Expansion connected with concern with the idea of a data center. At the time of this posting, there is no public knowledge if there is a connection between this bid and a data center.

Who provides electric to this property? It is understood the Hague to the East of this is City of Alachua electric and San Felasco Tech City to the west runs on their own electricity through solar.

Here is a link for an Appropriations Project Request from the City to the Florida House of Representatives for $4.5 Million for Alachua Substation Capacity Doubling and System Reliability Enhancement.

At this time it is unknown if this request for funding of the substation expansion is or will be approved by the State.
